THE SURPRISING THING
horned melon
It's a strange, pointy orange thing. I almost gasped when I cut it open - beautiful in a way I did not expect. This is what you get when you choose adventure in the produce aisle. Some beautiful thing that you don't know what to do with.
Not that yummy, I have to say.
Tastes like a blobby cucumber with pithier seeds.
Like the surprising fruit/vegetable thing, a juicy and unexpected wave of creativity has hit, finally. It's been a dry summer.
yum? not. well thanks for letting me know not to waste any $ on that thing LOL. I've been so close to buying one of those things. I bet it tastes better ripened on the plant rather than CO2 ripened for transport? so it's not a sweet thing at all? must be good for you then!! ;) lotsa antioxidants. I think I will stick to my peaches right now.

I love the unexpected symmetry and pattern found in nature. That was a surprising treasure. Thank you for sharing the beautiful photo.

Happy New Year Julie! Where ever you are!!!

hey Julie, how have you been? I see this Kiwano I had one like that in my garden, just couldn't believe how anything so beautiful can taste so mean, and the leaves are tough and sting your hands. Well I wasn't gonna believe it so I found the Kiwano Star Anise Jam and cooked some jam. it said: it is important to include the Kiwano seeds in the jam, not only for visual appeal and taste, because they develop a delicious flavor of almond after a few weeks. No they didn't! Not in my jam.
But they are full of potassium if that is of any comfort.
Bon appetit! your far flung friend, Kathrin

hi Julie.
long time no email/talk/whatever.
first, what a gorgeous picture. makes me think of some strange creature in the mystical depths of some wicked sea, with it's precious tadpole honeycombs ready to burst beside it.
but, it also makes me hungry, and now eager to try one myself.
hope you've been well, time to update your blog :)
peace
